Gold & Silver at the Hertfordshire Digital Awards

It fills me with great pride to announce that Professional IMPACT Design stormed home last week with both GOLD and SILVER at the Hertfordshire Digital Awards.

That’s a remarkable achievement considering I am a one man band and was up against full design agency teams. Not only that, I was one of a few that were nominated in four categories. I’ve vindicated my own belief that I can unite all of my interests and passions into a single business offering that brings true value to those who work with me. It’s all about amplifying my clients voice by ‘Using Design to Create a Professional IMPACT’.

I won both Gold for ‘Tourism & Hospitality’ and Silver for ‘Small Business Website’ for my web design for Maison Paul.

I also got both IBC and Maison Paul into the finals for the ‘Responsive Web Design category’. Judges from leading media organisation including Sky Sports, Warner Music and West Ham United FC describes my work as follows:

A classy journey on this neatly executed website communicates their culture and quality of food through clever use of images and tightly written copy

It’s been a remarkable year for me so far, helping one client beat their annual target by £5M alongside winning these awards. The hard work doesn’t stop there, it’s all about continued professional development for me so I’m looking forward to some high level social media training in central London which I start next month. Here is the list of winners and congratulations to each and every one of you…

Hertfordshire Digital Awards Finalists – Professional IMPACT Design

Great news this month as we’ve been nominated in four categories for the Hertfordshire Digital Awards 2015

It seems when you just get your head down and work hard, you don’t seem to notice your progress – you just keep pressing on to learn new processes, constantly refining your business offering to help keep your clients ahead of the game.

What started out many years ago as hobby has now grown into a full time business, looking after the image and marketing of business’s across Hertfordshire and beyond. Anyone who’s worked with me knows I’m passionate when it comes to presenting your business in the right way. I’m big on keeping a companies image nice and tight across all of the key touch points.

I guess it’s this drive to succeed and grow over the years that has helped me get to this point. I never started Professional IMPACT Design until my mid 30’s, however the foundations were laid 20 years ago back in 1995 when I got into caricature and street art. House of Herts interviewed me a few years back on my beginnings here.

Being selected for the Hertfordshire Digital Awards is a great honour given the level of creative talent out here.

Over the coming months I expect to expand, taking on a junior designer to help free up my time for other aspects of the business whilst helping others develop the necessary skill set to succeed as a commercial designer. For my money I think it’s important that once one enjoys a certain level of success, they at least contribute back in order to help the next generation.

The many hats of design

Working as a sole trader I wear far more hats than I initially expected. Most of my clients see design as ‘making stuff look good’ which I’m happy to go along with. There is far more to brand development of course, but as long as I deliver the desired end result for my client that’s all that matters. Usually if you are looking to expand your business through marketing you would need to hire several different creatives, in most cases that would mean the expense of a design agency.

Most of what I offer has come about through turning my hand to a variety of creative disciplines, including video, copywriting, sign writing, web development and so on. The digital landscape is always changing with new technologies and it’s my responsibility to ensure I keep track of developments as they arise.

For the HDA the two projects I entered were the web design for Hoddesdon based Maison Paul Bistro and Welham Green based IBC (Independent Buying Consortium). For both companies I also helped develop the brand. For Maison Paul the design I produced for them has attracted Victoria Beckham, treating her family to dinner their earlier this summer. IBC in particular has been an extraordinary success with my work helping them smash their annual target by £5M. For their site I also produced the videos and set up their web to print marketing service. Finally I designed and built an E-commerce website for Swagga – a high end men’s fashion store in Hoddesdon.

So there we are, fingers crossed for Septembers awards and even making it this far is something I’m proud of…

Graphic Design Construction: I don’t always use graphic design for the construction industry, but when I do, I build the design for mutual benefits.

The Allneeds Building and Construction Group is made up of three companies. ABC Depot, Capital Drywall and IBC. Back in 2012 I was headhunted to come on board for the Allneeds Group of companies to help elevate their image and help develop their brand. IBC is a buying group for small to medium sized independent builders merchants. Their collective buying power is an attractive sales option for well known key suppliers such as Lafarge Tarmac, Ox Group Tools and so on. Every month, IBC’s suppliers offer price promotions to IBC’s 200 members.  My job is to ensure all of the promotions are on brand to keep the suppliers happy and eye catching enough to engage IBC’s membership. During my time, one of my key success stories is that I have helped IBC establish great relationships with their suppliers as they feel their brand image is in safe hands. Not only that, I worked closely with them to help reach the milestone of over 200 members with a combined buying power of £400 Million. The pay off here is that if you are a builders merchant then that makes joining IBC as a member even more desirable as you get access to an ever growing catalogue of products at highly competitive rates. If you’re a supplier, you have access to group who have committed to spend.

add in the free marketing support system I designed, and there are just two reasons why I’ve helped produce results that has seen IBC regularly featured in the construction press.

I’ve enjoyed my time here at the Allneeds Group immensely and as a freelance graphic designer I’m blessed to have regular work. It allows me to be selective about what other projects I take on. Working closely with their marketing team we have reached new heights and predict continued growth as we work together to innovate new ways to commit to the membership. The IBC journey of ‘Commitment Through Innovation” is only just beginning.

Web Design for Restaurant Owners

Mayor of Hoddesdon Cllr Bren Perryman and Emmerdale actress Fiona Wade officially open Maison Paul Bistro

Web Design for Restaurant Owners: One of the joys of seeing a client launch their business is knowing you had a hand in helping them get there. Every milestone should be celebrated and Maison Paul certainly did that when they opened in style.

The opening was attended by Hoddesdon Mayor Cllr Bren Perryman and Emmerdale actress Fiona Ward. Patrick and his team laid on sumptuous European cuisine for all of the guests as they dined to the beautiful live sounds of West End Stage Star Irene Alano.

Over the past few weeks I’ve worked closely with experienced restaurateur Patrick Benois to design Maison Paul’s brand new website. Built on a responsive platform, the site works across all popular digital devices and eventually I’ll be integrating a simple to use booking feature that will allow Maison Paul to keep check of bookings without the red tape. I’ve got every confidence going forward that Maison Paul will deliver a fantastic dining experience for the people of Hoddesdon and Hertfordshire and I can only predict great success for them. In the meantime I’ll be liaising with their management team to set up all the staff emails, CMS training and more.  As the weeks go by, I’ll be looking at ways to increase the traction through print, social media and website design updates and so on as part of my on going commitment to them.

Restaurant Marketing Design

Graphic Design Hertfordshire

Restaurant Marketing Design:Variety is the spice of life and this week I  had a sprinkling of some fine parisian flavours tantalise my design taste buds.

Located in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire and opening on 4th of August 2014; Maison Paul is a French Bistro that will be serving the finest European and French cuisine. I’ve been honoured to help develop their brand with the main objective being to design and build their brand new website.  My plan at some stage is to introduce an online booking system that will really help develop their business. So far we are all on target for a private celebration this weekend with the Mayor of Hoddesdon in attendance along with some TV soap stars and the local press.

I’ll be developing their website further over the coming weeks but in the meantime, here is a sneak preview of some of the design I did for them.

The Champions Way Design blog

July_2014_Post

This is the champions way design blog:

Ok so I’ve not really delved into blogging but given my progress over the last two years I guess now is the time to let you into my world.

Some projects I work on really allow for me to get the creative juices flowing, whereas others are often restricted by budget, time frames and so on. We all start off with this idea that every day in the world of design will be exciting but like any business, there are peaks and troughs, moments when you think you really are on top of the design world to moments of….damn I need to read more books, practise and learn more. In actual fact the best you can ever amount to is work in progress. With that in mind, it’s much easier to commit to learning and delivering the best you possibly can for your clients.

I’m entirely self taught and having started out as a street artist many years ago, my route into freelance design was incongruent with the status quo to say the least but thats for another time.

Hopefully as time goes by my blog will make for a structured and varied read but for now you’ll have to bear with me as a fumble my way into the world of digital jibba jabba. I’ll be covering all the things I’m passionate about including style, good service, values, design, fashion and life in general.

In the mean time thanks for dropping by…it’s most kind of you 🙂

Branding for Construction

Branding for Construction: How important is it for your customers to notice you?

The right look and feel to your business can work wonders when executed in a certain way. I designed these signs and the whole building aesthetic to be as large as possible in order to make a huge impact as customers drive onto the premises. Once the store opens later this year I’ll bring you more pictures. In the meantime please check out the story so far!

Post_Feature_Image

ABC Depot was started by Vick Patel and his family back in 1990. Based in Finchley they built their business over the last 20 years and have since been fantastically successful. Last year saw the construction of their brand new flagship superstore in Hertfordshire. Given their ambition to become a nationally recognized business, they needed a strong brand that would enable to not just compete with the best. But be the best!

Helping my customers make a ‘Professional Impact’

Starting way back in the early 90’s. Vick and his family used to run their business from an old Portacabin in Finchley, North London. Back in those days and running on a tight budget, funds for repairs were scarce. The Portacabin that Vick used in the early days of ABC developed a large hole in the roof that would let in rain water. To save on costs and keep the business working at full speed, Vick placed an old bucket under the leak and pressed ahead. Vick and his family still have this bucket as a timely reminder of the ABC philosophy, humble beginnings, high hopes and hard work.

I used that wonderful story to help push and promote the ABC brand.

ABC_logo_Post_IMG2

In order to communicate their vision, ABC Depot needed a series of strong visuals to pitch to the market leaders in the construction industry. My illustrations helped Vick and his team secure several highly lucrative contacts. Just the kind of ‘Impact’ I like to deliver for my customers!

Objective

To establish a powerful brand and message that will bring a unique and innovative experience to their end users.

Solution

Results

The results so far have been extremely positive in terms of brand recognition. As part of the Allneeds Group of companies on going expansion, ABC are fast establishing themselves as a recognized and trusted builders merchant throughout Hertfordshire. I’ll bring you more on this story as it develops with our big launch planned for later this year. Marketing and Illustration for Leica

How illustration generates business: Your sales funnel may be refined. But if they don’t know it exists…how will they engage?

The correct illustration presented with Professional Graphic Design can really make an Impact with your audience to investigate what you stand for, your products and your servicesIn 2012 I was honored to be chosen by Swiss giant Leica Geosystems to market their products.

Objective

To establish product awareness with everyday builders and professional shop fitters. My initial market research which included going onto various building sites and chatting with the guys on site informed me that their preferred choice of laser measurer was one of Leica’s main competitors.

Solution

1) Working live over Skype with Leica’s European Marketing Team I illustrated their current range of laser distance measurers in the style of “Transformer” robots. Once completed I used graphic design and illustration in several ways to help market their products. For the first I designed a two page spread in Shop Spec, an annual publication for professional shopfitters. I also went on a location shoot in Central London to a building site in order to get the backdrop you can see in the ad.

2) My second solution was to have these illustrations turned into giant sized promotional cutout stands for Leica to use at trade shows (Pictures Coming Soon!)

Results

The short-term outcome was an impressively increased interest which had a positive Impact in their sales leads enabling Leica’s sales team to close sales. Figures will be posted soon. As a result of this I also helped market their Paris based sister company Agatec’s range of lasers.
